Fixing a Punctured Dishwasher
The casing can be punctured if not loaded properly. If not loaded correctly, the spray arms could force a knife or sharp object into the casing. You don’t have to change your dishwasher because of this. The fiberglass and epoxy kit can be used to repair the dishwasher casing. At the circuit breaker, turn off the power for the dishwasher. The water supply to the dishwasher can be turned off at the sink. Open the front and remove the screws holding the appliance’s top to the counter. Slide the dishwasher partially out of the bay. You may need to disconnect the water supply valve from some dishwashers. Use a Phillips Screwdriver to remove the kickplate from the bottom. Disconnect the water supply at the inlet valve underneath the dishwasher by using an adjustable wrench. Remove the insulation from the dishwasher. Open the dishwasher door and find the puncture. Sand the puncture from both sides with the sandpaper. Use wet rags and clean the area thoroughly to remove any dust that may have been left behind from the sanding. Allow the area 30 minutes to dry. Put on your rubber gloves. Mix the resin and hardener in a bowl using a stirring stick.
Spread the resin mix on the outside of your dishwasher near the puncture. Spread it on an area a little larger than the hole. Cut a piece slightly larger than the gap and press it on the resin. Apply resin using the brush over the patch. Make sure you spread the resin over all the edges. Repeat this process on the inside of your dishwasher. Before moving on, allow the resin to cure for 24 hours. Sand the patched areas using medium-grit paper until they are almost flush with the surface of the dishwasher tub. The patched area should be wet-sanded with fine grit until it is smooth. Repeat this process on the outside of your dishwasher. Pull the insulation up and over the sides. Push the dishwashing machine back into its bay. If you need to reconnect the water line, tighten it with an adjustable nut wrench. Install the kickplate at the bottom and tighten all screws with a Phillips Screwdriver. A Phillips screwdriver is used to attach the dishwasher to the counter. Turn on the power at the breaker panel for the circuit that feeds the dishwasher. Turn on the dishwasher’s water supply by turning the faucet at the sink.
